What are Recalls?

When an auto recall happens, it's the manufacturer's or NHTSA's fault. This is typically a defect that happened on the line at the factory or another issue that causes problems with the safety of the vehicle. Sometimes these vehicles don't comply with a standard set by federal law. In other cases, the entire vehicle is at risk and must be recalled. In most cases, you will receive repairs, but you can only do so after receiving a notice about the recall or filing a claim.

Once you receive a recall letter, then you'll be instructed to talk to a local dealer to set up the repairs. If you have certain types of recalls, such as a tire recall, you may only have a small window to get the repairs made. For tires, it's only 60 days from receiving the notification.
